你天天见它——夜里那盏最亮的灯。三千多年前，古人夜里抬头，把那弯新月画了下来。一弯缺口，中间加一笔。这就是月——和日一样，四千年没变过样。月圆了又缺，缺了又圆。走完这一轮，就是一个月。一年，十二轮。太阳和月亮站在一起，就是明。月还是字根：加其是期，加良是朗。身体上的月，其实是肉——那是另一个故事。学会一个月，你就认识了：月亮、一月、六月、十二月。农历八月十五，月亮最圆，中国人过中秋，一家人团圆，分一块月饼。一个字，三千年。

You see it every night — the brightest lamp in the sky. 3,000 years ago, our ancestors drew the new moon. A crescent with one stroke inside — that's 月, unchanged for 4,000 years, just like 日. The moon waxes and wanes; one full cycle is one month. Twelve cycles a year. Sun and moon standing together — that's 明 'bright'. 月 keeps working: +其 = 期 'time'; +良 = 朗 'clear'. The 月 in body words is actually 'meat' — another story. Learn one 月, and you know four HSK words: moon, January, June, December. On Mid-Autumn night the moon is fullest: families reunite and share mooncakes. One character, three thousand years.
