你现在喝的每一口水，和三千年前那条河里的，是同一种东西。这个字，也一样。三千多年前，古人看着河里的水，把它画了下来：一条主流，两边飞溅的水花。中间一条曲线是水流，旁边的点是浪花。这就是水——四千年了，还在流。水一跑到字里，就变成三点水。江、河、湖、海——全跟它姓。中国最大的两条河：长江、黄河。一个江一个河，名字里都有水。水还是字根：加可是河，加每是海，加先是洗。学会一个水，你就认识了：水果、喝水、开水、山水。老子说：上善若水。最高的善意像水——滋养万物，却从不争抢。一个字，三千年。

Every drop you drink is the same water that flowed 3,000 years ago. So is this character. 3,000 years ago, our ancestors drew the river: one main stream, splashes flying on both sides. A curving line of water, dots of spray — that's 水, still flowing after 4,000 years. Inside characters, water becomes 氵, the three-dot side. 江, 河, 湖, 海 — they all wear it. China's two great rivers, the Yangtze and the Yellow River — 江 and 河 both carry water. 水 keeps working: +可 = 河 'river'; +每 = 海 'sea'; +先 = 洗 'to wash'. Learn one 水, and you know four HSK words: fruit, drink water, boiled water, landscape. Laozi said: the highest good is like water — nourishing all things, never competing.
