很久以前，善良的牛郎和一头老牛相依为命。天上织女织出的云霞美极了。在老牛指点下，牛郎在河边遇见织女，他们成了亲，男耕女织，有一儿一女。王母娘娘带走了织女，牛郎挑着孩子追上天去；王母金簪一划，天河挡住去路。每年七月初七，喜鹊搭成鹊桥让他们相会——这就是七夕。

Long ago a kind cowherd lived with an old buffalo. In heaven, the Weaver Girl wove beautiful clouds. They met by a river, married, and had two children. The Queen Mother took her back to heaven; the cowherd gave chase across the sky, but a river of stars blocked his way. Every year on the seventh night of the seventh moon, magpies build a bridge — that is Qixi.
