很久很久以前，人们还没有文字，大事小事只能用绳子打结来记住。有一个人叫仓颉，他是黄帝的史官。一天，他看见地上的鸟脚印，突然明白了！他画了一个圆，中间加一点，这就是最早的字——日。山、水、人……文字一个一个诞生了。那一天，天上落下粟米，鬼在夜里哭泣。从仓颉开始，汉字陪伴中国人走过了五千年。

Long, long ago, people had no written words and used knots on ropes to remember things. There was a man named Cangjie, the Yellow Emperor's historian. One day, he saw bird tracks on the ground — and suddenly he understood! He drew a circle with a dot inside: the first character, sun. Mountain, water, person… characters were born one by one. That day, grain rained from the sky and ghosts wept at night. From Cangjie on, Chinese characters have walked with the Chinese people for five thousand years.
