天庭拿悟空没办法，只好去西天请如来佛祖。如来和他打赌：你要是能翻出我的手掌，天宫就让给你。悟空一个筋斗翻到天边，在五根肉红柱子下歇脚——低头一看，那竟是佛祖的五根手指！如来翻掌一压，五指化作五行山，把悟空压在山下，山上贴了一道金帖，他动弹不得。春去冬来，五百年过去，悟空在山下等一个人——等一个会带他走上新路的人。

Heaven could do nothing with Wukong, so they begged the Buddha for help. The Buddha made a bet: escape my palm, and heaven is yours. Wukong somersaulted to the sky's edge and rested beside five fleshy red pillars — which were the Buddha's five fingers! The Buddha turned his palm; five fingers became the Mountain of Five Elements, pinning Wukong beneath, sealed by a golden charm. Five hundred years passed, season after season, as Wukong waited for the one who would lead him onto a new road.
