雁荡山一日 · 奇峰与飞瀑

雁荡镇（响岭头一带）是吃住最集中的地方，镇口就是灵峰景区。早饭吃温州口味：鱼丸面、糯米饭、瘦肉丸汤、猪脏粉。景区分散，买票前先问清：几个景点是分别卖票还是联票、观光车能不能一次串完。灵峰白天和夜景要分别买票，晚上那场是重头戏，别漏。镇上到灵峰步行就能到，到灵岩、大龙湫要坐车。

Yandang town, around Xianglingtou, has the densest cluster of food and lodging, with Lingfeng right at its edge. Breakfast is Wenzhou style: fish-ball noodles, glutinous rice, lean-meat-ball soup, pork-offal noodles. The scenic spots are scattered, so ask before buying: separate tickets or a combined one, and whether the shuttle strings them all in a run. Lingfeng day and night views need separate tickets, and the night session is the headline act — do not skip it. Lingfeng is a walk from town; Lingyan and the Great Dragon Waterfall need a car.

灵峰是雁荡山最出名的一片。合掌峰是两座石峰并在一起，远看像合十的手掌，缝里夹着一座寺院叫观音洞：洞高一百多米，里头顺着岩壁修了九层楼阁，一层层上去像爬进石头的心脏，最上面一层能看见外面整片山峰。灵峰还有双笋峰、斗鸡峰、犀牛望月一堆名字，都是「看着像什么就叫什么」。白天看形状，晚上（夜色里手电一照）同一块石头又是另一个故事，所以灵峰要早晚各看一次。

Lingfeng is the best-known quarter of Yandangshan. Palms Peak is two rock peaks standing together like a pair of pressed palms, with a temple in the crack — Guanyin Cave: over a hundred metres tall, built up inside along the rock face as nine storeys of pavilions, climbing as if into the heart of the stone, the top floor opening onto the whole range of peaks outside. Lingfeng also holds Twin Shoots Peak, Cockfight Peak, Rhino Gazing at the Moon and a pile of other names, all of them 'it looks like this, so we call it this'. By day you read the shapes; at night, a torch beam turns the same stone into another story — which is why Lingfeng is seen twice, morning and evening.

灵岩是一片被峭壁围起来的谷地，正中两座石柱拔地而起——天柱峰和小龙湫那边，中间拉一根绳，每天定点有「飞渡表演」：表演的人从一头沿绳滑到另一头，中间翻跟斗、撒花、放鞭炮，最早的版本是山民采药过崖用的本事，现在成了固定的节目。表演有固定时间，来之前查好，别错过。谷里还有灵岩寺、小龙湫瀑布，绕着走一圈一个多小时。

Lingyan is a valley ringed by cliffs, with two pillars rising in the middle — the Pillar Peak on one side — and a rope strung between: at set times each day comes the rope-walking show, the performer sliding from one end to the other, tumbling, scattering petals and setting off firecrackers en route. The original version was mountain men's skill in crossing cliffs to gather herbs; today it is a fixed act. It runs to a timetable, so check before you come so you do not miss it. The valley also holds Lingyan Temple and the Lesser Dragon Waterfall — a circuit on foot takes a little over an hour.

大龙湫是雁荡山最有名的瀑布，落差将近两百米，是全国单级落差最大的瀑布之一。水量看季节：雨季水大，整条白练砸下来，声音轰隆，水雾能飘出老远，站在观景台上衣服就湿了；枯水季节只有细细一线，风一吹飘成一片雾，反而更像「龙」。瀑布底下是一汪深潭，潭边石头滑。旁边还有剪刀峰——同一块石头，走过去几步就变成另一副样子，是雁荡山「移步换景」最典型的例子。

The Great Dragon Waterfall is Yandangshan's most famous fall, dropping close to two hundred metres, one of the longest single drops in China. Its volume depends on the season: in the rains a whole sheet of white comes down with a roar, spray flying far enough to soak you on the platform; in the dry it thins to a single thread that the wind lifts into a veil of mist, looking, if anything, more like a dragon. Below lies a deep pool with slippery stones. Beside it stands Scissors Peak — the same rock, but a few steps on and it turns into another thing entirely, the textbook case of Yandangshan's 'a new view with every step'.

方洞的看点是一段修在绝壁上的栈道，铁栏护着，人贴着石壁走，脚下是几百米深的山谷，风从谷里往上吹。怕高的会腿软，但视野极好，能俯瞰整片雁荡的山峰。栈道不长，走完半个多小时。这里下午四点后的光最好，山影一层一层。走完原路返回，坐车回镇上。

Fangdong's draw is a stretch of boardwalk cut into a sheer cliff, iron rails at your side, you walking pressed to the rock with a valley hundreds of metres down and the wind blowing up out of it. Anyone afraid of heights will feel it in the knees, but the view is superb — the whole range of Yandang peaks laid out below. The walk is short, over in half an hour. The light after four is the best, the hills in layer upon layer of shadow. Return the same way and take a car back to town.

这是雁荡山独一份的玩法，也是这一天的高潮：天黑了再进灵峰，导游（或自己照着说明牌）用手电照着石头，白天叫合掌峰的那两座峰，从这个角度就成了「夫妻峰」——一个抬头、一个低头；旁边还有牧童、犀牛、少女、老僧一串角色，全靠剪影和想象。这套看法从明清就有了，几百年传下来。夜景要单独买票，天黑后分批进，跟着队伍走，别自己乱窜，山路黑。

This is Yandangshan's own peculiar way of looking, and the peak of the day: back into Lingfeng after dark, and a guide — or you with the explanatory boards — plays a torch over the rocks; the two peaks called Palms by day become the Husband-and-Wife Peaks from this angle, one head lifted, one bowed, with a cowherd, a rhino, a maiden and an old monk nearby, all made of silhouette and imagination. The habit goes back to the Ming and Qing and has been handed down for centuries. The night view needs its own ticket and admits visitors in batches after dark — stay with the group, for the paths are unlit.

三折瀑是同一股水在三级岩台上分成三段落下，上折、中折、下折，各有各的样子，晴天下午中折常挂着彩虹。白天游客多，夜里几乎没人，走进去只有水声、虫鸣和自己的脚步，是雁荡山最安静的地方。夜里进景区要看有没有开放（多数景区晚上不开放），开放的话带好手电，结伴走，别单独去。不开放的就留到明天清早。

The Three-Tier Falls are one stream dropping in three steps over rock ledges — upper, middle and lower, each different, the middle one often hung with a rainbow on a clear afternoon. By day there are crowds; at night there is almost no one, and you walk in with only water, insects and your own footsteps — the quietest corner of Yandangshan. Whether you can enter after dark depends on the reserve being open (most close at night); if it is, bring a torch and go together, never alone. If it is closed, save it for early tomorrow.

雁荡镇靠着乐清湾，海鲜是主角：蝤蛑（一种肥的青蟹，清蒸蘸醋最好）、望潮（小章鱼，白灼）、雁荡山笋（本山的春笋，油焖或烧肉）、溪鱼、敲鱼汤（温州名汤，鱼肉敲成薄片煮汤）。点菜先看池子、问时价。夜里山里有雾、路黑，回住处走大路。明天可以逛逛还没走的三折瀑，或者顺路去乐清、温州的楠溪江方向。

Yandang town sits by Yueqing Bay and seafood leads: youmou, a fat swimming crab best simply steamed with vinegar; wangchao, little octopus, briefly blanched; Yandang bamboo shoots braised in oil or with pork; stream fish; and qiaoyu soup, a Wenzhou classic where fish is pounded to thin sheets and boiled. Look at the tanks and ask the day's prices before ordering. Nights up here bring mist and dark roads — keep to the main street back. Tomorrow you can pick up Three-Tier Falls if you missed it, or head on toward Yueqing and the Nanxi River.
