Hot dry noodles on Hubu Lane at dawn, Yellow Crane Tower and the Yangtze Bridge in the morning, Tanhualin and East Lake in the afternoon, and the lights across the water at Hankou Riverside after dark — eight stops, each with the Chinese you will actually use there.
The recommended plan is “One Day in Wuhan — Morning Snacks and the Yangtze”: about A full day · about 12 hours, 8 stops —Hubu Lane · Breakfast, Yellow Crane Tower, Wuhan Yangtze Bridge, Tanhualin, Wuhan University, East Lake Greenway, Jianghan Road, Hankou Riverside · Yangtze at Night. Every stop comes with Chinese vocabulary, pinyin, set phrases and cultural notes at roughly HSK 3 level.
The Yangtze and the Han divide Wuhan into three: Wuchang, Hankou and Hanyang. This route takes in Wuchang and Hankou. Start with breakfast — 过早 in the local phrase — on Hubu Lane in Wuchang, climb Yellow Crane Tower in the morning and walk the Yangtze Bridge, lunch near Tanhualin, then Wuhan University and the East Lake greenway in the afternoon, and cross to Hankou after dark for Jianghan Road and the riverbank lights to finish. Wuhan takes breakfast extremely seriously: hot dry noodles, doupi, rice-flour soup and fried dough rings are all worth trying. Summers are brutally hot — the city is one of China's famous 'furnaces' — so avoid the midday sun. The local speech is Wuhan dialect (Southwestern Mandarin), fast and loud; it can sound like an argument when it is just a chat. Each stop carries the words and sentences most likely to come up that day, so you can read them aloud here and use them there.
Best time · 最佳季节:三月到五月、九月到十一月最好;三月中下旬武汉大学的樱花最有名,人也最多March–May and September–November are best; mid-to-late March brings the famous cherry blossom at Wuhan University, and the biggest crowds

Wuhan's best-known snack lane — a bowl of hot dry noodles starts the day.
Wuhan calls breakfast 过早, and it is the most important meal of the day. Hubu Lane is the best-known snack lane: hot dry noodles tossed in sesame paste, fragrant and dry; doupi, a fried layer of glutinous rice, egg and diced pork; rice-flour soup with a fried dough stick; and mianwo, rings of fried rice batter. It is busiest early, with locals eating standing up, bowl in hand — do as they do.
Practical note · 实用提示
清早去人少些;热干面要趁热拌开,放久了会坨。
Go early for smaller crowds. Toss the noodles while hot — they clump if left.
Yellow Crane Tower is Wuhan's landmark, standing on Snake Hill facing the Yangtze and the great bridge. Its fame comes largely from poetry — Li Bai and Cui Hao both wrote of it, and lines like 'my old friend takes leave of me at Yellow Crane Tower' are known by heart. The present tower is a 1980s reconstruction; from the top floor the bridge and the river open out in a wide view.

The Yangtze's first road-and-rail bridge — walking it shows all three towns.
Opened in 1957, the Wuhan Yangtze Bridge was the river's first combined road-and-rail crossing: traffic above, trains below, with Chinese-patterned railings and bridgeheads full of period character. A footpath crosses it, taking about half an hour each way — Yellow Crane Tower and Snake Hill on one side, Tortoise Hill and Hanyang on the other, boats moving on the water between. It is the best place to grasp the city's three-town layout.
Practical note · 实用提示
桥上风大,夏天晒、冬天冷;走单程就够,别走回头路。
It is windy on the bridge, exposed to sun and cold. One crossing is enough — do not double back.
Tanhualin is an old quarter of Wuchang against Snake Hill: decades-old buildings and a church on one side, new cafés and design shops on the other. The lane follows the slope up and down, and it feels like old Wuhan. Lunch in this area is easy; Hubei cooking leans salty and savoury — lotus-root and pork-rib soup and Wuchang fish are both worth ordering.

Wuhan University's old campus climbs Luojia Hill beside the lake and is widely counted among China's loveliest: the old dormitories, Cherry Top and the early buildings all date from the 1930s, in grey brick and dark tile, with steps and slopes throughout. The March cherry season is famous and crowded, with advance booking and daily caps; ordinary visits usually need booking too.

进校园基本要预约,樱花季名额很紧;校园在山上,台阶多,穿舒服的鞋。
Entry generally needs booking, and blossom season sells out. The campus is on a hill with many steps — wear good shoes.
East Lake is Wuhan's largest in-city lake, with over a hundred kilometres of greenway around it for walking, cycling or the sightseeing shuttle. The most pleasant stretch runs between Tingtao and Moshan: water on one side, trees on the other, and level ground. Rental points and shared bikes are on hand, so ride a stretch, stop, and repeat — an afternoon goes quickly.

湖边有租车和共享单车,骑车比走路省力;夏天蚊虫多,带驱蚊水。
Bikes are available and shared ones work too — easier than walking. Summer brings mosquitoes; bring repellent.
Jianghan Road is Hankou's oldest shopping street, running from the river up into the centre, lined with early twentieth-century banks, trading houses and old shops spanning styles from classical to Art Deco — a walk here is an architecture show. Stores, snacks and teahouses sit together, and it comes alive when the lights go on.

Hankou Riverside is a long park along the Yangtze, reached by walking to the river from Jianghan Road. The water is wide, with Wuchang's towers and the direction of Yellow Crane Tower opposite; after dark both banks light up together and the colours shift, drawing crowds. With promenades, lawns and benches, and a big view despite the wind, it is the best place to end the day.
