名字来自希腊语「不醉」。欧洲传统里它和清醒、节制联系在一起；19 世纪巴西大矿发现之前，紫色紫水晶的价钱是和红宝石、蓝宝石并列的。The name comes from the Greek for 'not intoxicated'. 紫色在中国有很长的吉祥含义（「紫气东来」），但紫水晶这种矿物本身不是中国传统宝石，它在国内流行是近几十年的事。Purple carries a long auspicious meaning in China — 紫气东来 — but amethyst the mineral was not a traditional Chinese gem. Its popularity in China is recent.

来历 · Where it comes from

《出埃及记》里亚伦胸牌上的十二石之一——「十二颗石头对应十二样东西」这套想法就是从那儿来的。One of the twelve stones traditionally set in Aaron's breastplate in the Book of Exodus, which is where the whole idea of twelve stones for twelve things starts.

保养 · Care

长时间暴晒会褪色。日常戴没问题，但别常年放在晒得到太阳的窗台上。Amethyst fades if left in strong sunlight for a long time. Wear it freely, but do not leave it on a sunny windowsill for years.

比现代表更早的那一版。这一栏的传统表和现代表指的是同一颗石头，没有分歧。

挑的时候看什么 · What matters when choosing

硬度只说明抗刮，不等于抗砸。本月的石头硬度是 7。硬度低的不适合当每天戴的戒指，但做耳饰、吊坠完全没问题；硬度高的也可能崩口。真正决定磨损的是硬度、韧性、以及你戴着它做什么。

先问是不是处理过的。祖母绿充填、蓝色托帕石辐照、黄水晶加热、绿松石浸胶染色，都是常见且正当的做法——但卖家应当告诉你。不说的才是问题。

两套表挑一个你喜欢的就行。因为两套表都有人用，你完全可以按颜色或预算选，不用被「官方答案」绑住。

Hardness only measures scratch resistance, not toughness. Ask about treatments — filling, irradiation, heating and dyeing are all normal, but they should be disclosed. And choose between the two lists by colour and budget; there is no official answer to be bound by.
