HSK Level 3 is designed for learners who have mastered elementary Chinese, covering 600 common words and more complex grammatical structures. This course helps learners communicate relatively fluently in work, study, travel, and other scenarios. 6 units cover work & study, health & sports, travel & weather, feelings & emotions, daily life, and society & communication.
The 把 construction is a very important Chinese sentence pattern that emphasizes the handling or influence on an object. It moves the object before the verb, and the verb must be followed by a complement (resultative, directional, etc.) or other element. The object is typically specific and known to both speaker and listener.
除了……以外 indicates exclusion or addition. Two usages: 1) with 都, meaning 'except for..., all...' (exclusion); 2) with 还/也, meaning 'besides..., also...' (addition).
一边……一边…… indicates two actions happening simultaneously. Each 一边 is followed by a verb phrase. The two actions are usually independent and can be done at the same time. This structure is very common in spoken Chinese.
如果……就…… expresses a conditional relationship. 如果 introduces the condition, and 就 introduces the result. 就 is placed before the predicate of the result clause. In spoken Chinese, 如果 is sometimes omitted, using 就 alone to imply conditionality.
虽然……但是…… expresses contrast. It acknowledges the fact in the first clause but presents a result contrary to the expectation. In speech, 虽然 can be omitted, using 但是 alone to indicate contrast.
虽然下雨了,但是他还是去了公园。
虽然这家酒店很贵,但是服务非常好。
虽然中文很难,但是很有意思。

越……越……
越 + Verb/Adj + 越 + Verb/Adj
「越……越……」表示一个程度随着另一个程度的变化而变化,相当于英语的 'the more...the more...'。「越来越……」是最常见的用法,表示某个状态随时间推移而不断变化。
越……越…… indicates that one degree changes with another, equivalent to 'the more...the more...' in English. 越来越…… is the most common form, indicating a state that changes progressively over time.
着 (zhe) is placed after a verb to indicate the continuation of a state or action result. It emphasizes the resulting state rather than the action itself. For example, 门开着 emphasizes that the door is in an open state, not the action of opening it.
The 被 sentence is the main passive construction in Chinese: Patient + 被 + (Agent) + Verb + Complement. The agent can be omitted if unknown. In speech, 叫 or 让 often replace 被. 被 sentences typically describe unpleasant or undesirable events.
才 indicates the speaker thinks an action happened late or took long; 就 indicates the speaker thinks it happened early or took short. Both go before the verb.
又……又…… connects two parallel adjectives or verb phrases, indicating two coexisting states or actions. Used to describe something with two characteristics.
不但……而且…… expresses a progressive relationship where the second clause goes further than the first. When subjects are the same, 不但 goes after the subject; when different, before it.
连……都…… emphasizes by citing an extreme or minimal example, equivalent to 'even...'. The negative form uses 连……都 + 不/没. Can also use 连……也…… with the same meaning.

Chinese workplace culture emphasizes hierarchy and relationships (关系). In addressing others, it's common to use surname plus title, such as 'Wang Manager' or 'Li Boss.' Calling someone directly by their name may be seen as disrespectful. Hierarchy is strong, and subordinates rarely publicly oppose their superiors.
Teamwork and interpersonal relationships are very important. Colleagues often eat meals, drink tea, and chat together, which helps build good working relationships. Chinese people value 关系 (guanxi), and workplace networks greatly influence career development.
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is a treasure of Chinese culture with thousands of years of history. Its theoretical foundations include yin-yang balance, the five elements theory, and qi-blood circulation. TCM views the human body as a whole where health depends on internal balance.
Common treatments include: Chinese herbal medicine, acupuncture (stimulating acupoints with fine needles), tui na (massage), and cupping. TCM emphasizes 'preventive treatment' — prevention is better than cure, maintaining health through body regulation.
China has vast territory with many world-famous tourist attractions. The Great Wall is the longest wall in the world, stretching over 20,000 kilometers, and is a UNESCO World Heritage site. When traveling to Beijing, the Great Wall is a must-visit. Badaling is the most famous section.
The Forbidden City, located in the center of Beijing, was the imperial palace of the Ming and Qing dynasties with nearly 600 years of history. It has over 900 buildings and thousands of rooms. West Lake in Hangzhou is one of China's most famous lakes, renowned for its natural beauty and rich cultural legends.
China has many important traditional festivals. Spring Festival (Lunar New Year) is the most important. People paste spring couplets, set off firecrackers, have reunion dinner, and give red envelopes. Red envelopes contain money and symbolize blessings and good luck.
Gift-giving in Chinese culture carries great significance. Gifts should be beautifully wrapped, with red wrapping being especially welcome. Both giving and receiving should be done with two hands to show respect. Gifts are generally not opened immediately upon receipt. Taboos include: do not give clocks or umbrellas.
Shopping habits in China have changed dramatically. People used to shop at markets or supermarkets, but now more and more people choose to shop online. Taobao, JD.com, and Pinduoduo are China's largest e-commerce platforms.
Mobile payment is very popular in China. WeChat Pay and Alipay are the two most common payment methods. Many people don't carry wallets anymore; they just scan QR codes with their phones. Even at farmers' markets, mobile payment is accepted. Express delivery is very efficient, with online purchases typically arriving within one to three days.
China's transportation system has developed very rapidly in recent decades. High-speed rail is a calling card of China, with total track length exceeding 40,000 kilometers, ranking first in the world. From Beijing to Shanghai, the high-speed train takes only four and a half hours. High-speed trains are not only fast but also very safe and comfortable.
Public transportation in cities is also very developed. Almost every major city has a subway. Shared bikes are also popular, solving the 'last mile' problem. Even remote rural areas now have bus service, making travel increasingly convenient for everyone.
